We recently returned from a wonderful trip to Acadia National Park that was taken because of an invitation from our grand -daughter Sabrina and my daughter Shannon. What a beautiful place. It was 20 hours of driving each way. We discovered an amazing garden at Boothbay Maine called Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, that is home to some giant trolls. The stone work and the gardens are worth a visit, if you’re in the vicinity!
Once we were home the work in the garden started in earnest. Weeding and mowing were our priority. We then covered about 400 square feet of a garden bed with cardboard and put mulch down. We have used this method before and it worked great without the use of herbicide. We had a huge problem, periwinkle had taken over completely. We now have opportunity to think about this area and replant it in the fall.
We had hedges to trim and vegetables to pick, lawn to mow and some perennials to move. We discovered that between the robins and chipmunks, we will have to go to the u-pick strawberry farm down the street, they wiped out a very promising strawberry harvest. The wee little bastards have started a war and I aim to win it. That is the way with farming or gardening. The snap peas are producing abundantly , the peppers ,tomatoes and potatoes are blooming and everything else looks in good shape for now.
Here are a few of the standouts in the rest of garden .
as Porky the Pig would say “That’s All Folks.
Summer is here! What a fun trip and thanks for the peaks into your garden.
Nice Al! I’ve lived and worked for a summer in that part of Maine years ago truly spectacular. Glad you got to enjoy it. Can’t wait to bring my granddaughter to see the trolls!
